Highway crash kills bus driver

Associated Press

PASADENA, Calif. – A bus carrying members of a Korean church from a weekend retreat slid off a mountain highway after the driver lost control and collided with another vehicle Monday, officials said.

The bus’s driver, Won Seok Chae, 61, was killed in the collision.

The bus was returning to Pasadena from the retreat for middle and high school students in Twin Peaks when Chae lost control on a curve, the San Bernardino County coroner’s office said.

The bus crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting a Nissan Murano. The bus then sheared off a telephone pole and slid about 20 feet down an embankment.

The bus passengers and the two people in the Nissan were hospitalized. Ten were seriously injured, California Highway Patrol Officer Mario Lopez said.
