Memorial service for Munson set

A public memorial service for former Spokane Valley mayor Rich Munson will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at CenterPlace, 2426 N. Discovery Place, according to Spokane Valley city councilman Bill Gothmann. Munson, 68, died on New Year’s Day from complications of leukemia. Current Spokane Valley mayor Tom Towey announced Monday that the City of Spokane Valley will fly its flags at half staff Tuesday through Sunday in Munson’s honor. Towey will read a proclamation declaring the observance at Tuesday’s city council meeting. Towey said he had no idea Munson was so ill. “Rich was a visionary,” he said. “We need more visionaries like him in our community.” Munson is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janet, three children and four grandchildren.
