Area basketball: Bulldogs hold off Lions

Courtney Vandersloot had game highs of 22 points and nine assists and grabbed eight rebounds to power the Gonzaga Bulldogs (15-4, 3-0) to a 65-59 victory over the Loyola Marymount Lions (9-9, 3-1) in West Coast Conference play Saturday at Gersten Pavilion in Los Angeles.

Katelon Redmon added 17 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs, who had a 13-point halftime lead before going cold in the second half.

Gonzaga shot 54.8 percent from the floor in the first half to take a 44-31 lead. But the Bulldogs made just 28.6 percent of their shots in the second half, allowing the Lions to stay within striking distance.

Northern Colorado 75, Eastern Washington 68: Courtney Stoermer had 17 points and seven assists and Lauren Oosdyke and reserve Kim Lockridge each scored 15 to lead the Bears (7-9, 3-1) to a win over the Eagles (6-9, 2-1) in Big Sky Conference play in Greeley, Colo.

Tatjana Sparavalo came off the bench to score a game-high 24 points for the Eagles. She also pulled down six rebounds. Julie Piper added 13 points and seven boards and Brianne Ryan scored 14 for EWU.

Whitworth 80, Willamette 60: Taylor LaMoreaux notched her first career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to propel the Pirates (7-8, 3-3) to a victory over the Bearcats (1-12, 0-6) in Northwest Conference action in Salem, Ore.

Emily Travis added 16 points and six rebounds and Jamie Lyons chipped in 10 points and five boards for the Pirates, who shot 51.5 percent from the floor in the first half to open up a 46-33 lead.

CC Spokane 68, Yakima Valley 63: Brooke Randall hit four 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 28 points and the Sasquatch (13-2, 3-0) defeated the Yaks (9-5, 1-2) in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges play in Yakima.

Korrie Bourn had 12 points, Karinne Tuttle scored 10 and Chelsea Brisbois came off the bench to contribute 10 points and a team-high five rebounds for CCS.

The Sasquatch shot 75 percent from the floor in the first half – hitting 15 of 20 shots – to open up a 39-28 lead.

North Idaho 68, Colorado Northwestern 41: Tugce Canitez and reserve Deanna Dotts each posted double-doubles to propel the Cardinals (16-3, 2-3) to a win over the visiting Spartans (6-13, 0-5) in Scenic West Athletic Conference action.

Canitez finished with 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Dotts tallied 11 points and 12 rebounds.
