Indians lose on 11th-inning homer

Jayson Langfels had trouble with his glove in the 10th inning but created trouble with his bat in the 11th. Langfels led off the 11th with a home run to left field off closer Matt West (0-1) Saturday night to give the Tri-City Dust Devils a 6-5 win over the Spokane Indians in Northwest League play at Gesa Stadium in Pasco. Langfels’ error in the 10th had allowed Spokane to take a short-lived 5-4 lead. T-C (10-6) won its fourth consecutive game to lead the East Division by one game over Boise and two over Spokane (8-8). Spokane struck first on Trever Adams’ RBI single to right in the first. T-C answered with single runs in the second and fourth, then took a 4-1 lead in the fifth. Zach Cone’s two-out, two-run double to right in Spokane’s seventh tied the score at 4. The Indians then manufactured a 10th-inning run without a hit. Leadoff batter Hirotoshi Onaka was hit by a pitch, stole second base, moved to third on a strikeout/wild pitch and scored when third baseman Langfels couldn’t glove a pickoff attempt. The Dust Devils tied it at 5 in their 10th on Leonardo Reyes’ two-out RBI double to left. Spokane manager Tim Hulett and hitting coach Josue Perez were ejected in the 11th for arguing an inning-ending called strikeout.
