Number of Bloomsday injured low
The Spokane Fire Department reported late Sunday that they responded to only 17 medical incidents during the Bloomsday race. Paramedics were on bicycles, on foot, and in other vehicles along the race course to provide a quick response, said Assistant Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer in a press release.
A MedStar helicopter and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office helicopter were also in the air to provide information and patient transport if needed.
Only eight of the 17 people had to be taken to the hospital for treatment, Schaeffer said. The reported injuries included chest pain, a fractured ankle and dehydration.
