Roundup: University dominates District 8 3A girls singles

Unseeded Hannah Nichols created an all-University final in girls singles by defeating teammate Sena Burchak 6-1, 6-3 Wednesday during the semifinals of the District 8 3A tennis tournament at U-Hi.

Nichols will meet top-seeded Caylee Lamm in today’s final at U-Hi.

In 3A boys singles, Mt. Spokane’s Caleb Deibel defeated second-seeded Alex Schejbal of North Central 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to set up a final with top-seeded teammate Connor Larkin.

The top seeds advanced in 4A boys and girls singles.

Boys soccer

Derrick Zimmerman’s goal on a penalty kick at 45 minutes started Pasco toward a 3-1 win at University in 3A regional play. The Bulldogs will travel to Southridge on Saturday. Brenadin Moore knocked in Brandon Smith’s corner kick at 75 minutes for the Titans (7-7), whose five-match winning streak ended. U-Hi will play Eastmont at 4 p.m. Saturday at Albi Stadium.

Softball

Emily Lohman tripled and had four RBIs, and Britany Wuestoff scored four times as visiting Chewelah (6-12) defeated Freeman (7-11) 13-9 in a District 7 1A loser-out game. Chewelah plays at Colville at 11 a.m. Saturday. … Courtney Davis struck out six and hit a three-run homer in the third as Riverside (12-7) notched a five-inning 11-0 win over Newport (0-17) in another loser-out. Riverside will travel to Nine Mile Falls to play Lakeside at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Baseball

Kyle Morgan pitched a one-hitter and struck out 10 as host Moscow ended Sandpoint’s season with a 4-1 win in the Idaho 4A Region I tournament. Nolan Johnson singled, doubled and walked for the Bears, who host Lakeland at 4 p.m. today.
