In brief: Motorcyclist goes airborne, killed

A Post Falls man is dead after a motorcycle crash sent him flying off the elevated portion of Interstate 90 at Wallace.

The Idaho State Police said Francis L. Cox, 67, was riding a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle east on I-90 at milepost 61 at 11:43 a.m. Saturday when he failed to navigate a left-hand curve. His bike drove off the right shoulder and hit a Jersey barrier, sending him flying off the bike and off the elevated portion of the freeway, the ISP said. He landed in a parking lot adjacent to Bank Street in Wallace, police said, and was declared dead at the scene.

Cox was not wearing a helmet, the ISP said.

The incident remained under investigation Saturday evening.

Driver making U-turn hit, later dies

A Spokane Valley woman died Friday afternoon after a car collision near Athol.

Myra Gann, 76, was northbound in a 2000 Honda Accord on U.S. Highway 95 near Brunner Road about 3 p.m. Friday, the Idaho State Police said. She attempted to make a U-turn from the right-hand shoulder, and was hit by a northbound 2002 Chevy Avalanche driven by Kyle Meschko, 22, of Sagle.

Gann was transported to Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene, where she died.

Meschko was not injured, the ISP said.

Theft suspect ID’d, seen, arrested

Spokane police arrested a man allegedly responsible for numerous burglaries, vehicle thefts and vehicle prowlings in the Spokane area.

Police said Travis W. Talley, 35, stole a truck from a man living near S. 5000 Quail Ridge Circle, along with the owner’s wallet.

The victim was notified the next morning that his credit card had been used at Sunset Food Mart, 2627 W. Sunset Blvd. He went to the store and viewed the surveillance tape. The victim and the manager identified the suspect, whom they then saw entering the West Wynn Hotel across the street.

Police said that when they entered Talley’s room, they found several stolen identifications, credit cards and a small bag of methamphetamine.

Talley was booked into Spokane County Jail on Friday for forgery, two counts of third-degree possession of stolen property, and one count of possession of a controlled substance, along with five outstanding warrants.

Another man, Gabriel M. Hansen, 34, who police say was in the hotel room with Talley, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
