In brief: Geezer Bandit’s bank stickup is his 14th heist since 2009

Morro Bay, Calif. – The aging bank robber known as the Geezer Bandit has struck again, his 14th robbery since August 2009, the FBI said Saturday.

The bandit, described by witnesses as 60 to 70 years old, used a revolver to rob the Heritage Oaks Bank branch in Morro Bay on Friday, the FBI said.

The Geezer Bandit is suspected of robbing 10 banks in San Diego County and one each in Temecula, Bakersfield, Goleta and Morro Bay. A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his capture and conviction.

Family dog kills boy, 4, turns on mother trying to help

New York – A 4-year-old boy playing with his young brothers in a bedroom was fatally mauled by a family dog that had been feared by neighbors, police said.

Jayelin Graham suffered severe wounds to his head, neck and torso Friday night in the assault at his mother’s apartment in Brooklyn’s Brownsville section.

His mother told police that when she tried to intervene, the dog, a male Cane Corso mastiff, turned on her, too. Even with the help of a neighbor who rushed to help after hearing her screams, she was unable to save the child, police said.

Police and firefighters arrived quickly and took Jayelin to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The dog was sedated and taken to a shelter.

Driver won’t face charge for boorish finger gesture

Denver – A harassment charge has been dropped in the case of a 35-year-old Colorado man who faced prosecution for displaying his middle finger to a Colorado State Patrol trooper.

The State Patrol said in a statement late Friday that it asked that the case be dropped.

The American Civil Liberties Union had argued that while the gesture may be have been rude, it amounted to protected free speech.

According to the ACLU, Shane Boor was driving to work in April when he saw a trooper pull over a car. As Boor passed by, he extended his middle finger in the trooper’s direction.

Boor was later stopped and received a criminal summons ordering him to appear in court to answer a criminal charge of harassment, which carries a possible six-month jail term.
