Advantage IQ will now be called Ecova

Name combines Spokane, Portland operations

Advantage IQ, a subsidiary of Avista Corp., has renamed itself Ecova, the company announced Tuesday.

The company also formally merged its Advantage IQ operations, based in Spokane, with Ecos, a Portland-based company that it acquired in 2009.

Ecos has developed a specialization in design and energy analysis to help companies save money through building systems and more efficient management.

Advantage IQ, started by Avista in 1995, uses detailed energy data to help companies operate facilities more efficiently. Ecova has 573 Spokane workers and 123 in Portland.

Jeff Heggedahl, who has been president and CEO of Advantage IQ since 2009, will be Ecova’s CEO.

Earlier this year Advantage IQ acquired Seattle-based Building Knowledge Networks, a similar business that focused on real-time building-energy management services.

Between the two companies, Ecos and Advantage IQ collected data spanning thousands of utilities, more than 450,000 business sites and millions of households, according to a company release. Revenue last year was $102 million.

The name Ecova was developed as a merger of Ecos and Advantage, said spokeswoman Wendy Carhart.
