Local soccer club Spokane Scotties entered a contest for the best soccer crest in Washington and after more than 5,200 votes, the Scotties are champs!

The Scotties were the only select level club from the east side of the state. The Scotties rallied their troops and won the hearts of neutrals by topping a handful of bigger clubs and winning the 2011 Best Crest vote as sponsored by www.goalwa.net, Korrio and Code Four Athletics.

In the end the Scotties accounted for 26 percent of the votes in the final ballot, edging out Seattle United’s 25 percent and Federal Way FC’s 23 percent.

Spokane Shadow finished fifth with 9 percent.

Winning the vote means that 18 members of the Scotties’ community will be hosted by Korrio at the Seattle Sounders FC match on Oct. 15 against the San Jose Earthquakes. The Scotties will have a pizza party at Korrio offices and then march to the match from there.

The Scotties’ crest features Spokane landmarks integrated with a Scottish flag. The shield includes Spokane icons the Riverfront Clocktower and the 1974 World’s Fair Tent Pavilion.
