Born in Tacoma, Washington to Walter and Helen Tate, he graduated from Stadium High and the University of Puget Sound.
Terry spent his career in the lumber industry, starting at Weyerhaeuser, then Potlatch and finally as owner of Tate Forest Products.
Terry was an avid fly fisherman and active member of his church.
He is preceded in death by his brother John, and survived by his wife Mercedes, children Bruce (Kimberly) and Cynthia, grandchildren Lauren (Robbie) and Paul.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 8th at 2:30PM at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, 4102 South Crestline.
