Gonzaga Prep’s boys hold off Central Valley

The Gonzaga Prep Bullpups (8-4, 8-2) held off the Ferris Saxons’ comeback attempt Saturday and kept pace with Central Valley atop the league standings with a 54-52 win at Ferris.

Ferris (8-4, 6-4) fell behind by eight points in the fourth but cut the deficit to two with 6 seconds left. The Saxons’ Cody Benzel attempted a long 3-pointer at the buzzer, but it fell short.

Ryan Gregory scored 18 points and T.J. Bracey added 11 for Gonzaga Prep. Ferris was led by Chris Wilson and Nathan Galgalo, who combined for 33 points.

Central Valley 60, Lewis and Clark 51: Anthony Brommer scored on a post move with 3:49 left to break a tie at 44 and the Bears (9-3, 8-2 and tied with G-Prep atop the GSL) pulled away down the stretch, outscoring the host Tigers 12-5 in the final 3 minutes.

Austin Rehkow led CV with 21 points, with Garrett Sawyer chipping in nine and Brommer eight. Tanner Johnson led LC (6-4, 8-4) with 13 while Austin Damon added 12.

Shadle Park 65, Rogers 53: Brett Boese scored 21 points and Kionte Brown added 16 – including six in the decisive third quarter – as the Highlanders (9-3, 7-3) swept the season series from the visiting Pirates (4-7, 3-7).

Boese and Brown combined for 13 rebounds. Shadle Park outscored Rogers 17-6 in the third to take a 10-point lead into the fourth.

Aaron Highbarger scored 15 points and Carson Murray added 14 for Rogers, which had four players in double digits.

University 59, Mead 42: The visiting Titans (9-3, 7-3) took control in the fourth and stormed past the poor-shooting Panthers (1-11, 1-9).

Mead, which got 16 points from Forrest Baker, made just 12 of 51 shots from the floor.

University outscored Mead 19-8 in the final quarter to seal the deal.

Brett Bailey scored 20 points – eight coming in the fourth – for University.

Mt. Spokane 70, North Central 56: Jordan Weems scored 19 points as the Wildcats (3-9, 2-8) beat the host Indians (2-10, 2-8).

Stu Stiles had 17 points and Tyler Drumheller chipped in 16 for the Wildcats.

Mt. Spokane took control in the third, outscoring North Central 15-9.

North Central was led by Jamil Foster’s 18 points and Chase McDuffie’s 14 points.
