Selected The Columbus Blue Jackets will host the 2013 edition of the NHL All-Star game. Commissioner Gary Bettman made the announcement Saturday at the NHL Board of Governors meetings.

• U.S. Davis Cup captain Jim Courier selected teenager Ryan Harrison to the four-man tennis squad that will play Switzerland next month in the first round. Harrison, 19, joins Mardy Fish, John Isner and Mike Bryan on the team that will play on clay indoors in Fribourg, Switzerland, from Feb. 10-12.

Waived The Chicago Bulls released veteran guard Mike James, who’d been signed Jan. 11. James appeared in three games for Chicago and averaged four points.

Hired The Chicago Bears hired Kansas City Chiefs director of college scouting Phil Emery as their new general manager. Emery was an area scout for the Bears from 1998-2004. He replaces Jerry Angelo, who was fired after the Bears’ injury-riddled 8-8 season.

Injured Several members of the St. Gregory’s University (Okla.) college basketball team suffered minor injuries when their bus collided with a semi-truck east of Oklahoma City. A Highway Patrol officer said the injuries didn’t appear to be serious. St. Gregory’s is an NAIA school in Shawnee, about 40 miles east of Oklahoma City.

Suspended The NBA suspended Milwaukee Bucks guard/forward Stephen Jackson one game for verbal abuse of an official and failure to leave the court in a timely manner in Friday night’s loss at Chicago. He served his suspension Saturday night, when the Bucks played the Los Angeles Lakers.

Cleared The NCAA says it cleared Connecticut guard Ryan Boatright to play in today’s game against Notre Dame after determining he has lived up to an arrangement that gave him limited immunity for cooperating with an investigation into recruiting violations. Boatright was suspended for the first six games of the season for accepting benefits. He played in 10 games before UConn sat him out again on Jan. 13 after the NCAA informed the school it was looking into additional information. He has missed UConn’s last three games.

Charged San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was charged with driving under the influence in Miami Beach.

Transferred Wide receiver Kyle Prater has transferred to Northwestern from Southern California, the Wildcats said. A Chicago-area product, Prater redshirted as a freshman and had just one catch for 6 yards last year in an injury-plagued season.
