Flash flood halts traffic on I-90

A sudden downpour of rain and hail caused flash flooding in parts of east Spokane and Spokane Valley and brought traffic to standstill on I-90 this afternoon.

Washington State Patrol said clogged drains under the Thor and Freya overpasses caused more than a foot of water to pool on the interstate. The storm began around 3 p.m., and the roadway was not reported clear until two hours later.

A flash-flood warning from the National Weather Service was in effect until 6:15 p.m.
