Moss reported returning to NFL with 49ers
A person with knowledge of the negotiations says Randy Moss is back in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers.
ESPN first reported the move.
Moss agreed to a one-year deal Monday with the reigning NFC West champions, according to a person who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the club had yet to make a formal announcement. The 35-year-old Moss worked out with the 49ers earlier in the day with former NFL quarterback and current coach Jim Harbaugh participating.
Moss, who worked out last Tuesday with the New Orleans Saints, spent a year out of football and last played for New England, Minnesota and Tennessee during a rocky 2010 season.
Free agency starts today
The NFL’s calendar season opens today when free agency begins.
As if there hasn’t been enough news with the Peyton Manning tour, Saints bounties and veterans being cut by their teams, now comes the roster feeding frenzy.
Four-time MVP Manning is, of course, the top free agent after he was released last week by Indianapolis.
Many other game-changers, such as Ray Rice, Wes Welker, Matt Forte and DeSean Jackson, were given franchise tags and will require compensation if they switch teams.
Still, there are dozens of enticing options, including Mario Williams, Mario Manningham, Vincent Jackson and Matt Flynn.
Manning, Titans to meet
A person familiar with the situation says the Tennessee Titans will be visiting with four-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning in his search for a new team.
Titans coach Mike Munchak will meet with Manning after a session with Miami coach Joe Philbin.
Titans owner Bud Adams made it known Sunday he will do whatever it takes to sign Manning to get back to the playoffs and win his team’s first Super Bowl.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have tendered an offer to restricted free agent wide receiver Mike Wallace. The Steelers did not release what the player was tendered. Pittsburgh has the right to match any offer made to Wallace or would receive compensation if he signs with another team, likely a first-round draft pick. … Sione Pouha agreed to a three-year contract with the New York Jets. The team made re-signing the nose tackle a top priority before he hit free agency. They got the deal done with the 33-year-old Pouha just in time.. … Backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels and the Minnesota Vikings have agreed in principle to a new, two-year contract. Rosenfels was acquired by the Vikings in 2009 from the Texans for a fourth-round draft pick, but he never saw the field behind Brett Favre and Tarvaris Jackson and was traded to the Giants the following year. Rosenfels joined the Dolphins last season and was waived in November before the Vikings claimed him. … Detroit Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson says he restructured his contract to help the team keep some key players. Burleson said that he agreed to have his $4 million base salary for this year converted into a $3.125 signing bonus to save the Lions $2.17 million in salary cap space.
