Post Falls’ Colbert named player of the year

Marcus Colbert had a record-setting career as a four-year starter for the Post Falls High boys basketball team. Sunday he was named the 5A player of the year for the All-Idaho teams announced by the Idaho Statesman newspaper in Boise.

A four-year starter, Colbert became the school’s scoring leader this year, finishing his career with 1,407 points. The 5-foot-11 point guard signed a letter of intent last fall with Montana State University.

He won a school-record 82 games and averaged 17 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists in his career.

Colbert led Post Falls to a state title two years ago and the Trojans played for the state title this season.

Coeur d’Alene senior Deon Watson, who has signed to play football at Idaho, was named to the 5A first team. He averaged 13.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists.

CdA junior forward Kendalyn Brainard was named to the 5A girls first team. She averaged 9.3 points and 6.3 rebounds.

Timberlake had two 3A first-team picks in Kelly Madsen and Kara Wenstrom, both seniors.

Priest River junior Steffie Pavey also was named to the 3A first team.

Area players named to second teams were Michael Hillman of PF, Sydney Williams of CdA, Satchel Schetzle of St. Maries and Ryan McDonald and Garret Wend of Kellogg.
