FINKE, Mary Alice (Schuerman)
(Age 89)

Mary passed away April 29, 2012 in Spokane Valley.

She was born February 18, 1923 to Theodore S. and Mary L. Schuerman.

She grew up on a ranch outside of Colville, attended White Lake country school and graduated from Colville High School in 1941.

During the war, Mary served two years in the U.S. Navy.

After the war Mary went to Holy Names College in Spokane and then entered Gonzaga University with the first class of women in 1948.

Mary married in 1948 and she raised five children.

In 1962, she returned to Gonzaga and obtained a teaching certificate.

She taught first and second grade at Arthur B. Ness in West Valley School District for 25 years.

After retirement, Mary enjoyed traveling and going to her lake place at Deer Lake to fish.

She also was very involved with the quilting group and the Altar Society at St. Aloysius.

Mom was also a Prayer Affiliate of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration.
She is survived by her twin brother, Mark Schuerman and younger brother, John Schuerman as well as her five children, Rozanne Caruso (Anthony), Joseph Finke (Kylene Binder), Mark Finke (Cindy), Duane Laurelton (Claire) and Suzanne Metz (Kelly, dec.) Mary has eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Francis, Ted, Joseph, and Paul, and three sisters, Theresa, Cecilia and Ruth.
Visitation will be from 12 - 7 p.m. on Friday, with Rosary service beginning at 7 p.m. at Hennessey Smith, 2203 N. Division on Friday, May 4, 2012.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone on Saturday, May 5, 2012.

Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. in Colville at the Highland Cemetery, E. 7th Avenue and Aladdin Road, on Saturday, May 5, 2012.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Aloysius Altar Society.
