Obituary: Smith, Letha Fay (Woody)
Age 92
Born May 27, 1920 to LeRoy and Vera Woody of Connell, Washington.
Letha graduated from Connell High School and attended business college in Walla Walla, WA.
She was married on April 20, 1940 to Robert L. Smith (Roy) and after living briefly in the Grandview area, they settled in the Colbert, WA area where they farmed for many years, raised their three children and where their son continues to farm.
The Green Bluff Grange recently honored Letha for her 75 years of Grange membership.
Letha passed away May 11, 2012 and was predeceased by her husband, Roy, brothers Lyle and Loren Woody, great-grandson, Karl Sprague and son-in-law Tom Fleming.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen (J. Rod) Sprague of Chattaroy, WA, son Gary (Dawna) Smith of Colbert, WA and daughter, Cheryl Fleming of Clarkston, WA.
Her grandchildren are Jeffrey Sprague, Wendy Christopher, Carolyn Schafer, Jason Meeker, John Sprague, Jennifer Fogle and Lindsey Eberhardt, eighteen great-grandchildren, her sister, Helen Heideman of Hermiston, OR and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts Margaret Conner and Alma Hill.
Letha touched so many lives and extended her influence to hundreds of people through her dedication to quilting.
She made over four hundred quilts that were donated to various organizations in the Spokane area.
Her beautiful quilts grace the homes of her children and grandchildren and provide comfort to all.
Letha grew an amazing garden and was able to supply berries and veggies to friends and families during the summer months.
Her maple bars and pies were renown not only with her family but were often sought out at grange dinners and other community functions.
She was devoted to her family and never missed an opportunity to watch her grandkids either at hockey, basketball, softball, or dance recitals.
Her strength and endurance in good and bad times are a true testimony of this amazing woman.
She will be missed but always loved and memories of her will be shared and handed down the family tree for generations to come.
There will be a private burial and then a Celebration of Life at the home of her daughter, Karen Sprague on May 19, 2012 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.
