Parade, more Saturday at West Valley Days

Six bicycles will be raffled off

A parade will wind through parts of Millwood on Saturday as part of the 18th annual West Valley Days celebration. The event serves as the main fundraiser for West Valley SCOPE, which also donates a portion of the proceeds to local nonprofit organizations.

The parade will kick off at 11 a.m. at Trent Avenue and Boeing Road, moving north to Grace Avenue, west on Grace to Stout Road, and north on Stout to Millwood City Park. The grand marshals this year are longtime West Valley SCOPE supporters Shirene and Pat Young.

Carnival games and other events will be in the park at Frederick Avenue and Stout Road from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There also will be information booths, food vendors, prizes and a DJ. A silent auction will begin at 2 p.m. Items up for bid include gift baskets, restaurant gift certificates and two toddler tricycles.

This year there are six bikes available in a free raffle. Drawings will be at 1 and 2:30 p.m. “They have to be present to win the bike,” said West Valley SCOPE president June King.

If anyone is interested in helping with the event, it’s not too late to sign up by calling the SCOPE office at (509) 477-0629. “Mostly we need some young helpers,” King said. “Volunteers are always needed.”
