He spent his Navy career in the Pacific Arena stationed in Hawaii, the Canton Islands and was in Okinawa when the war ended.

He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Good Conduct Medal and the American Area Campaign Ribbon.

Following the war Bill worked for Eland and Stewart Motor Freight, Beardmore Heavy Haul and Crane Service and R.C.

Hughes as a heavy duty long haul trucker driving trucks throughout the Western States.

He loved his job and the places it took him.

It was while working for Eland and Stewart that he met Elanor Repp who was also employed with the company.

They were married in Endicott, WA on November 13, 1948.

Bill retired in 1983 and filled his time with varied interests and hobbies.

He was talented in woodworking and gardening.

He enjoyed reading, traveling, his church family and a good political discussion.

He and Eleanor celebrated their retirement with an extended trip to Hawaii followed by years of traveling around the U.S., Australia and Europe.

They visited many national parks, ports and cities that he had read and heard so much about.

Bill was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Teamsters Union 690.

Despite his many interests the most important part of Bill’s life was his family and love for his country.
