Traded The Miami Marlins’ front office continued to swing a sledgehammer at their underwhelming 2012 team, agreeing to trade starters Josh Johnson and Mark Bueh rle, shortstop Jose Reyes, outfielder/infielder Emilio Bonifacio and catcher John Buck to the Toronto Blue Jays, a league source confirmed on Tuesday. Among the players the Marlins are getting back in what amounts to a massive salary dump: shortstop Yunel Escobar, right-hander Henderson Alvarez, left-hander Justin Nicolino, and infielder Adeiny Hechavarria. Outfield prospect Jake Marisnick, right-handed pitching prospect Anthony DeSclafani and catcher Jeff Mathis also are part of the contingent heading to South Florida.

Agreed The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to an $850,000, one-year contract with third baseman Kevin Frandsen. Frandsen hit .338 with 10 doubles, 14 RBI and a .383 on-base percentage in 55 games last season.

• The Chicago Cubs have agreed to a one-year contract with former Minnesota Twins pitcher Scott Baker that guarantees $5.5 million next season. Baker was 63-48 with a 4.15 ERA with Minnesota from 2005-11. He underwent Tommy John ligament replacement surgery April 17 and missed last season.

Re-elected The chairman of USA Basketball, Jerry Colangelo, has been re-elected to a second term.

Suspended San Diego State says the NCAA has suspended freshman forward Winston Shepard for three basketball games for violating an unspecified rule.

Acquired The Charlotte Bobcats say they have acquired forward Hakim Warrick from the New Orleans Hornets for guard Matt Carroll.

Released The St. Louis Cardinals have released veteran reliever Kyle McClellan.

Out Minnesota Timberwolves swingman Chase Budinger will miss the next three to four months while recovering from surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee.
