Obituary: Schenk, Dan Ray

Age 72

SCHENK, Dan Ray MACS, U.S. Navy - Retired 4th of July, 1940 - Nov. 13, 2012 Our wonderful father and husband passed away peacefully in his sleep at Spokane’s Hospice House on November 13, 2012.

Dan is survived by his loving wife of almost 38 years, Susan (Soinski) Schenk; three sons, Dan Jr. of Sacramento, CA, Scott of Spokane, Brendan of Coeur d’Alene, ID; daughter, Kim Edmondson of Hayden, ID; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He is also survived by his mother, Helen Schenk, of Jonesboro, AR; and his twin brother, Jan, of Lebanon, MO.

Dan’s father, Raymond Schenk, passed away in 1992.

His passions included rebuilding classic cars, riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, law enforcement and the U.S. Navy.

Everyone who knew Dan simply adored him.

He filled our hearts and our home with love and laughter.

He’ll always be remembered for his generous nature and positive attitude.

Even after he found out he had pancreatic cancer, he told us that he had lived a full life and had accomplished so much - he had no regrets.

He was very proud of his family (as we were of him!)

and until just six months ago had led a healthy, active life.

Our family wishes to extend our appreciation to everyone who helped us on this journey, especially Dr. Maryam Parviz, Dan’s minister, Glenn Tunick, and the gentle and caring workers of Hospice.

A Special Thanks goes to Dan’s closest friend, Fred Theierl, whose weekly visits meant so much to all of us.

A memorial celebrating Dan’s life will be held at the Valley Church of Christ at 17221 E. Broadway, Spokane Valley, WA on December 1, 2012 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Dan’s name to Hospice of Spokane.
