Two men in CdA shooting were acquaintances

The two men involved in a shooting Saturday in Coeur d’Alene “were at least acquaintances,” according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office. Christian N. Buquet, 19, who also used the name Christian N. Mallon, allegedly shot Frank James once in the chest before speeding away. After a chase, during which police say Buquet fired at civilians and at officers, he was shot and killed by Coeur d’Alene Police. James, 29, underwent surgery at Kootenai Medical Center and is in stable condition, according to a news release. The release doesn’t specify how the men knew each other, and a telephone call to the sheriff’s department was not immediately returned. Coeur d’Alene Police have not released the name or names of officers involved in the shooting. The sheriff’s department said investigators are still processing evidence from the car Buquet was driving and the police cars involved in the incident. Witnesses said James was shot in the chest just before 11 a.m. near 11th Street and Lakeside Ave., in Coeur d’Alene.
