Cheney coat drive returns, in need of children sizes

The annual Cheney coat drive is in full swing. Carol Kriegh, one of the organizers, said this is the 16th year churches, Kiwanis and community organizations in Cheney are having a coat drive.

Collection bins are located at Cheney schools and businesses through Oct. 12.

“We always need the smaller children’s sizes, as small as newborn and baby sizes,” Kriegh said. “And toddler sizes. We usually have plenty of adult-size coats.”

The coat drive works with KXLY-TV’s Coats for Kids drive, but Kriegh said the Cheney coats stay in Cheney.

“This year KXLY is making it possible for us to get the coats we collect dry cleaned,” said Kriegh.

Collected coats will be distributed on Oct. 26 at Sunset Elementary School in Airway Heights from 3:30 to 6 p.m.; on Oct. 27 at Salnave Elementary School and Westwood Middle School, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and at the Wren Pierson Community Center’s Feed Cheney free dinner on Oct. 29 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

“There are no criteria for access to a coat,” Kriegh said. “You don’t need to show ID or proof of insurance or anything. You can just come in and get one.”

Any leftover coats are donated to the clothing exchange at the Wren Pierson center.
