Host Cougars win at Palouse Ridge

Led by Hank Frame’s 4-under-par 68, the Washington State men’s golf team pulled away to win the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate on Tuesday at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman.

The Cougars shot 10 under on the day to win by 12 strokes.

WSU finished at 11 over. Gonzaga and Idaho tied for fifth at 44 over.

WSU had four golfers finish inside the top 10. Kent Hagen tied for fourth at 4 over, Michael Anderson tied for fifth at 6 over and Blake Snyder tied for 10th at 7 over. Idaho’s Aaron Cockerill also tied for 10th place.

Gonzaga’s top finisher, Sean Walsh, took 14th place at 10 over. GU’s James Fahey and Travis Johnson finished tie for 15th at 11 over.

Women’s golf

The Idaho Vandals finished tied for ninth place at the Colonel Wollenberg’s Ram Classic at the Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo.

The Vandals’ Leilanie Kim finished eight strokes over par to earn a tie for 16th.

Texas Tech won the tournament by 27 strokes. The Red Raiders finished at 4 under.

Women’s soccer

Eastern Washington’s Cassie Black was named the Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week after strong performances against Boise State and Utah State at last weekend’s Viking Classic.

Black, a sophomore, scored twice in the Eagles’ 3-1 win over Boise State on Sunday and had three shots against Utah State on Friday.
