Obituary: Hopkins, Dale Alan

HOPKINS,
Dale Alan

Dale Alan Hopkins was born on October 13, 1955 to Harrold and Margaret Hopkins (both deceased).

He was raised in Spokane and graduated from Mead High School in 1974.

He joined the Marine Corps after high school and in 1975 Dale married his high school sweetheart, the former Kim Johnson, who accompanied him on his assignment to North Carolina.

When his active duty was completed in 1978 Dale and Kim returned to Spokane where he and his brother-in-law started a lawn sprinkler business.

During this time Dale also started attending college under the G.I.

Bill and in 1982 he joined the Spokane Fire Department, serving as a firefighter, paramedic, and lieutenant.

Dale served as a firefighter for over 27 years, retiring in 2010.
Shortly after his retirement, Dale was diagnosed with lung cancer, which he faced stoically, with grace and dignity.

A naturally quiet man, he became more introspective, and once again embraced his Christian faith that he had been taught in his youth.

Dale was baptized not long before his passing, and made attempts to reconnect with those who meant the most to him.

His quiet sense of humor, his willingness to help all he knew, and his unfailing desire to face life’s challenges head on will all be missed by those who knew Dale.

He is survived by wife Kim, daughters Mandi, Sarah and Stephanie, brother Don and sister Marcia.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, September 15th at Northview Bible Church.
