Central Valley edges Ferris in girls soccer

Kasey Ames’ goal in the 58th minute broke a 1-all tie and Central Valley held on to beat Ferris 2-1 in a Greater Spokane League girls soccer match Friday at Central Valley.

The upset-minded Saxons (4-4, 0-4) got on the board first when Madison Miley scored in the 20th minute. CV (7-1, 4-0) responded in the 38th minute when Meagan Dimmler took a pass from Sara Grozbanich and knotted the contest before Ames’ winner.

Central Valley held a 10-4 advantage in shots.

Elsewhere in the GSL, Chloe Williams had two goals and an assist to lead Lewis and Clark (3-3, 2-2) to a 3-1 win over Mead (5-2, 2-2) at Hart Field. Both of Williams’ goals came in the first half. Sarah Curren scored the Tigers’ third and final goal in the 70th minute. Mead’s Martha Heaps ruined the potential shutout with a goal in the 78th minute. … Madi Payne scored twice as Gonzaga Prep (8-1, 4-0) routed North Central (2-5, 1-3) 6-0 at Pacific Park. Mallory Payne assisted on two of the Bullpups’ four first-half goals and Larkin Russell had a goal and an assist. … Whitney Weaver had two goals and an assist and Riley Richardson scored twice as Mt. Spokane (10-0, 4-0) dumped Shadle Park (2-5, 1-3) 7-0 at Shadle Park. Danika Martin assisted on two goals for Mt. Spokane.

Volleyball

Hannah Zalopany and the Mead Panthers (5-0) eased past Gonzaga Prep (2-3) 25-9, 25-17, 25-18 in a Greater Spokane League match at Gonzaga Prep.

Zalopany had 13 kills, 10 digs, five aces and three blocks.
