Sounders eliminated

Seattle Sounders FC were knocked out of the CONCACAF Champions League after drawing 1-1 against Santos Laguna in the second leg of their quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday night in Mexico City. Santos claimed the opening leg 1-0 at Seattle last week. Colombian Carlos Darwin Quintero (pictured) scored on a free kick after 20 minutes, expertly curling a 25-yard shot in off the underside of the bar. Lamar Neagle banged home a rebound to tie the game in the 72nd for the MLS team. Neagle’s goal added a touch of drama to the final minutes, but the Mexicans were able to endure for a 2-1 aggregate edge in the home-and-home series. Seattle, which last year was eliminated in the quarterfinals, lost a chance to qualify for the continental final for the first time. – AP
