Crane collapses at Port of Portland

Associated Press
PORTLAND — Work crews fled an unusual sound today while using a 600-ton crane to remove an outdated bulk loader at the Port of Portland. One minute later, the crane collapsed. No one was injured in the collapse. The Oregonian reports the port has concerns the marine pier may have been damaged. Port spokesman Josh Thomas says a small fluid spill was contained, and the crane didn’t hit any structures besides the pier. Workers were removing the outdated bulk unloader, unused since the mid-1990s, at the Kinder Morgan soda ash export facility when they heard a sound that suggested something was wrong.
