State has two fertilizer plants similar to one that exploded

Associated Press

FINLEY, Wash. – The Washington state Department of Agriculture said there are two fertilizer plants in the state that make similar products to the West, Texas, facility that exploded this week.

King 5 News reported that both facilities are in Finley, located outside of Richland in Benton County, and have good safety records.

Benton County Fire Department Captain Jeff Ripley said the two facilities are surrounded by deluge monitors and water guns.

Firefighters said they constantly tour the plants and plan for problems and said neither facility stores explosive materials in the same containers as those in Texas.
