PNW Co-op Specialty Foods will host a lentil cooking demonstration stage at the National Lentil Festival in Pullman starting Friday.

The stage will be co-sponsored by Whole Foods Market and features a panel of experts and cooking demonstrations.

At 6:30 p.m. Friday, visitors can quiz the Ask the Experts panel about anything related to lentils. The panel includes experts on environmental, nutrition and economic benefits of Palouse-grown lentils.

Lentil cooking demonstrations are Saturday. Here’s the schedule:

11 a.m.: Nick Pitsilionis, chef and owner of The Black Cypress in Pullman

Noon: Robin Leventhal, chef, teacher and “Top Chef” contestant

1 p.m.: Derek Sarno, Whole Foods Market senior global chef.

Can-It-Forward on Saturday

Ted Allen, host of the Food Network show “Chopped,” will host a canning demonstration during a live, free webcast Saturday for National Can-It-Forward Day. Jarden Home Brands, the makers of Ball home canning products, is sponsoring the webcast.

Allen and others will webcast live from Union Square Greenmarket in New York City from 7 to 11 a.m. FamilyFun magazine, Rick Fields from Rick’s Pickles and Taylor Davis from Mason Jar NYC will also be featured.
