What’s at stake

Washington moves back into its renovated stadium on the shores of Lake Washington with a marquee test to re-open Husky Stadium. It’s a rematch of last December’s Las Vegas Bowl when the Broncos built a huge early lead then pulled out a 28-26 victory.

Key matchup

Boise State CBs vs. Washington WRs: The Broncos are expected to start Bryan Douglas and Deonte Deayon at cornerback, who have a combined four college starts. Meanwhile, the Huskies will counter with standout Kasen Williams, veteran Kevin Smith and possibly freshman John Ross to lead a deep group of receivers.

Players to watch

Boise State: RB Jay Ajayi. The lineage of Boise State having a featured running back to complement the Broncos’ noted passing game now falls to the sophomore who had an impressive freshman season. Ajayi averaged 6.8 yards per carry and his 559 yards rushing were the most by a Boise State freshman since Ian Johnson rushed for 663 in 2005. D.J. Harper was able to rush for 72 yards on 16 carries last December against Washington. Similar production will be needed from Ajayi.

Washington: QB Keith Price. No Husky will face more scrutiny tonight. His junior season was a disappointment, capped by interceptions thrown on his final passes against Washington State in the Apple Cup and BSU in the bowl game.
