College basketball: CCS, NIC advance to Bigfoot title game

The Community Colleges of Spokane and North Idaho men’s basketball teams both won Saturday at the Bigfoot Classic at Spokane Falls Community College and will meet today for the title.

Kwinn Hanson made 11 of 15 shots and finished with 29 points and 13 rebounds as the Sasquatch pulled away in the second half and beat Edmonds 89-77.

Chase Haack hit five 3-pointers and added 24 points for CCS (4-2), which outscored the Tritons 49-35 in the second half to erase a two-point halftime deficit.

North Idaho (11-2) beat Everett 87-83. The Cardinals’ Braxton Tucker scored 22 points on 10-of-19 shooting and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the way. Brad Wallace added 17 points and six boards for NIC.

Today’s title game will start at 4 at SCC.

Women’s basketball

Idaho sophomore Stacey Barr scored 20 of her team-high 23 points in the second half as the Vandals dominated after halftime and beat Appalachian State 83-60 at the Lady Griz Classic in Missoula, Mont.

Idaho trailed by six at the half, but outscored the Mountaineers (1-7) 54-25 in the second half.

Alyssa Charlston added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Vandals (6-4).

Appalachian State was led by Maryah Sydnor, who scored 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting. She also pulled down 12 rebounds.

• Courtney Williams led three players in double figures with 13 points as Texas A&M held on to beat Washington 74-68 in a nonconference game in College Station, Texas.

Jazmine Davis scored 24 points and Talia Walton added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Huskies.

UW fell to 2-3 and the Aggies improved to 6-2.
