Returning Tennis player Rafael Nadal says he’s not focused on winning his first match in eight months when he returns next week at the Chile Open. Nadal said that results aren’t as important for now as reaching “an acceptable level,” after a left knee injury forced him to take the longest break of his career. The 11-time Grand Slam champion said his knee has improved but it still hurt sometimes and he’s going to remain “humble and patient” in his comeback.

Injured The Chicago Bulls were without three starters for Saturday’s 93-76 NBA win over the Atlanta Hawks. Guard Kirk Hinrich, center Joakim Noah and forward Carlos Boozer did not play for the second straight game. Hinrich had a procedure to have an infection cleaned out of his right elbow and is expected to miss about a week. Noah was held out with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. Boozer has a right hamstring injury.

Suspended Texas A&M defensive lineman Kirby Ennis has been suspended from the team after being arrested on a gun charge. According to Brazos County jail records, Ennis was arrested on Friday night by College Station police and charged with disorderly conduct, discharge or display of a firearm.

• New Purdue football coach Darrell Hazell has suspended wide receiver O.J. Ross indefinitely for a violation of team rules. The school did not say what team rule or rules were violated.

Removed Officials at Auburn University have announced the iconic oak trees at Toomer’s Corner will be removed. University officials made the announcement Friday and said in a statement that the trees are unlikely to survive despite efforts to save them after they were poisoned with a powerful herbicide. Harvey Updyke Jr. is accused of poisoning the trees and is scheduled to go to trial April 8.

Signed The Atlanta Hawks have signed guard Jannero Pargo to a second 10-day contract. In five NBA games since signing with the team Jan. 21, Pargo has averaged 5.2 points and 2.6 assists.
