She was born November 20, 1927 in Portland, Oregon.
She attended Washington State University in Pullman, Washington where she met her husband, Robert L. Dirks.
They were married in 1948 and lived in Spokane, Washington, more than 50 years.
She worked for many years at the Spokane County Courthouse, including the position of Deputy Treasurer in the Treasurer’s Department.
Gertie was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Spokane for many years.
Gertie was known for always being a very giving person, always considering others before herself.
Gertie was preceded in death by her husband.
Her survivors include her two sons, Jeff Dirks (Angela) of Anchorage, Alaska and Jim Dirks (Lorna) of Richland, Washington; her sister, Esther Cox of Anchorage, Alaska, four nieces, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life is planned for later in the year at Priest Lake, Idaho, where Gertie and her family spent many summers.
