Williams leads surge
University of Washington’s Chris Williams, the top-ranked amateur in the world, shot a 2-under 70 to lead Team USA’s surge up the leaderboard Saturday at the Cope de las Americas at TPC Blue Monster Course at Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami.
Williams finished with a 15-foot birdie on the par-4 18th, and Team USA shot a 291 for the third round, the lowest team score.
The United States is tied with Mexico for second place at 24-over 288, five shots behind Canada.
Williams’ teammate, Erynne Lee of Silverdale, Wash., shot a 71.
Williams is tied for fourth in the individual standings. The tournament concludes today.
