Obituary: Schneider, Mary Louise

Age 94

SCHNEIDER, Mary Louise (Age 94) Mary Louise Schneider went home to the Lord on January 18, 2013 in Spokane, WA.

She was born October 17, 1918, in Waterville, WA to John and Alice Schneider at the family homestead just northeast of Waterville.

She received her early education in the Waterville area, where she graduated from High School.

Mary Louise then earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Holy Names College in Spokane.

She began her teaching career in a one-teacher school called Mud Springs just west of Mansfield, WA.

The following year she taught in the Mansfield School District and then spent the next six years teaching back home in Waterville.

She moved to Wenatchee and taught english and reading in the Wenatchee School District for 28 years.

Mary Louise’s interests and activities were with her educational and religious organizations.

She served as president of the following organizations: Wenatchee Branch of Childhood Education, Wenatchee Education Association, St. Joseph Parish Council of Catholic Women, the local and state organizations of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and Chapter CP of P.E.O.

Sisterhood.

Following the year of state regent of Catholic Daughters, she served as national evangelization chairman for the organization.

Mary Louise always enjoyed research projects.

During the Washington State Centennial, she researched schools of Douglas and Chelan Counties with historic names for the book, “Name On The Schoolhouse” which was published by the Washington State Retired Teachers Association.

During her life she spent many hours donating her time to the community and caring for others.

Her activities and recognitions are listed in “Who’s Who of American Women”.

She also enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, gardening and spending time with her family.

She lived with, and cared for, her mother Alice Schneider most of her adult life, until her mother’s passing at age 107.

She moved from Wenatchee to Spokane in 2004 to be near her sister, Eileen Fisher and family.

She is survived by her sister, Eileen Fisher; niece, Elizabeth Myles; great niece Holly Myles; great nephew, Justin Myles; all of Spokane, WA, her nephew, Steven Fisher, of Olympia WA; and various family members in the Waterville area.

She is preceded in death by her father, John, and mother, Alice Schneider.

She was an angel on earth, and now our guardian angel in heaven.

We will miss her greatly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Interment following at Wenatchee City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. at Jones & Jones-Betts Memorial Chapel with Rosary at 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2013.
