National Gonzaga Day: Kaitlin Ballantyne, 20, does her homework in a tent outside the McCarthey Athletic Center on the Gonzaga University campus Wednesday. More than 60 tents are occupied by students intent on getting front-row tickets to tonight’s West Coast Conference men’s basketball showdown between the Zags and Brigham Young University. Today is also National Gonzaga Day, the culmination of the university’s 125th anniversary celebration. Both the men’s and women’s basketball games will be broadcast in a free event that’s open to the public in the Spokane Convention Center, starting at 6 p.m. RSVP is required at NationalGonzagaDay.org, and attendees are asked to bring one nonperishable food item to donate. GU President Thayne McCulloh will talk about the university’s future during halftime of the men’s game, and there will be a fireworks display on the GU campus after the game. Zags everywhere are urged to wear their Bulldog gear. (Jesse Tinsley)
