Head-on crash result of DUI, troopers say

Staff report
A woman suspected of driving under the influence caused a head-on crash that sent the other car’s occupants to the hospital, the Washington State Patrol says. Spokane Valley resident Lisa McKerlie, 51, was driving a 2003 Hummer southbound on state route 27 near Mica late Friday night when she crossed the centerline and struck a northbound Ford Expedition, causing it to roll and block the southbound lane, a news release from WSP said. McKerlie was not injured, but the Ford’s occupants, Steven and Beverly Sharon, of Spokane Valley, were taken to the Valley Hospital, the release said. Charges are pending, the WSP said. McKerlie was fined and sentenced to one day in jail and two years probation in 2003 for driving while intoxicated, news archives show.
