Six years and 13 games later, Pack top UNC

College Basketball: Lorenzo Brown had 20 points and 11 assists to help No. 18 North Carolina State beat North Carolina 91-83 on Saturday night in Raleigh, N.C., ending a 13-game losing streak in the long rivalry.

Freshman T.J. Warren added 19 points for the Wolfpack, who beat the Tar Heels for the first time in nearly six years. N.C. State dominated much of the night, leading by 23 points before the break and 28 after halftime before the Tar Heels cut the deficit all the way to 85-80 with 30.7 seconds left.

The Wolfpack hit six straight free throws to avoid what would’ve been a crushing late-game collapse.

• Villanova shocks No. 3 Syracuse: In Philadelphia, Ryan Arcidiacono hit the tying 3-pointer with 2.2 seconds left in regulation, and James Bell hit consecutive 3s in overtime to send Villanova to its second win over a top-five team this week, 75-71 over No. 3 Syracuse.

The Wildcats defeated No. 5 Louisville 73-64 on Tuesday and became the first unranked team to beat two top-five teams in the same season since Florida State in 2010-11, according to STATS LLC.

• Georgetown upsets No. 5 Louisville: Otto Porter had 17 points and grabbed the game’s decisive rebound with 1.4 seconds to play, leading Georgetown to a 53-51 win over No. 5 Louisville in Washington, the Cardinals’ third straight loss.

• No. 1 Baylor women win; Griner sets record: Brittney Griner set the NCAA career record for blocked shots while also scoring 15 points, and top-ranked Baylor extended its home-court winning streak to 50 with an 82-65 victory over No. 20 Oklahoma.

With eight blocks in the game before fouling out with just over 5 minutes left, the 6-foot-8 Griner has 665 career blocks, two more than Louella Tomlinson had for Saint Mary’s in California from 2007-11.

Griner’s 2,833 career points are two shy of matching Oklahoma State’s Andrea Riley’s Big 12 scoring record.

Harden, Parsons lead Rockets past Nets

NBA: James Harden scored 29 points, Chandler Parsons added 16 points and a career-high 11 assists and the host Houston Rockets beat Brooklyn 119-106.

Nets star Deron Williams scored 27 points, but cooled off after a 20-point first quarter.

• 76ers stop Knicks: Jrue Holiday scored a career-high 35 points, Nick Young had 20 and the Philadelphia 76ers cruised to a 97-80 victory over the visiting New York Knicks.

Carmelo Anthony needed 28 shots to get 25 points. He has 28 straight 20-point games, tied with Patrick Ewing for second-longest streak in franchise history.

Blackhawks tie franchise-best start

NHL: Jonathan Toews scored the game-winner early in the third period and Corey Crawford had 24 saves to help Chicago match the best start in franchise history with a 3-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets in Columbus, Ohio, running the Blackhawks’ record to 5-0-0.

The only other time the Blackhawks began a season 5-0-0 was 1971-72.

• Perron, Redden lead Blues: David Perron scored two goals and had an assist, and Wade Redden notched his first NHL goal in almost three years to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 4-3 victory over the host Dallas Stars.

Both of Perron’s goals, as well as Chris Stewart’s third of the season, were part of a three-goal second period that turned a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead for St. Louis.

Manuel leads South to Senior Bowl win

Miscellany: Florida State’s E.J. Manuel passed for a touchdown and rushed for another on the South’s first two drives in a 21-16 victory over the North in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

Manuel was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player. Brigham Young defensive end Ezekiel Ansah received the honors for the South team while Purdue defensive lineman Kawann Short was the North’s top player.

• Torrey Pines delayed: Tiger Woods’ two-shot lead is going to have to wait to pursue a seventh win at Torrey Pines.

Three players completed one hole before fog wiped out virtually the entire day at the Farmers Insurance Open. Players are to resume the round Sunday and play as long as daylight allows, and then finish Monday.

• Wood eagles to win: Chris Wood eagled the 18th hole to win the Qatar Masters in Doha, for his first European Tour title, overtaking Sergio Garcia and George Coetzee by a stroke at 18-under 270.

• Luton beats EPL’s Norwich: Luton became the first nonleague team in 24 years to beat topflight opposition in the FA Cup as Norwich was knocked out 1-0 in the fourth round in London.

Arsenal avoided an upset at Brighton by beating the second-tier club 3-2.

• Ivory Coast reaches quarterfinals: Ivory Coast became the first nation to advance to the African Cup of Nations soccer quarterfinals, beating Tunisia 3-0 in Rustenburg, South Africa, on goals in by Gervinho, Yaya Toure and Didier Ya Konan.

Vonn beats Maze to win World Cup slalom

Winter Sports: Lindsey Vonn beat rival Tina Maze on the Slovenian’s home snow and in her best discipline Saturday, earning a surprising victory in a giant slalom in Maribor, Slovenia.

Maze had a chance to secure her third giant slalom discipline title and led after a near-perfect first run, but a poor start to the second cost her valuable time and she finished 0.08 seconds behind Vonn.

• Paris takes downhill: Dominik Paris of Italy won the classic World Cup downhill in Kitzbuehel, while American skier Ted Ligety missed a gate and failed to finish.

• Castelli-Shnapir claim title: Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir overcame a mistake to win their first pairs title at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Omaha, Neb.

Shnapir appeared to lose his edge as they went into their side-by-side spins and had to stand there until Castelli finished her spin. Their performance in the short program was enough to keep them in first.

• Despite falls, Wagner repeats: Even with two falls, Ashley Wagner has become the first woman since Michelle Kwan in 2005 to repeat as champion at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Omaha, Neb. Wagner finished with 188.84 points.

Also, Meryl Davis and Charlie White won their fifth straight ice dance crown. That matches a record held by four other couples, including Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto.

• Humphries wins at bobsled worlds: World bobsled champion Kaillie Humphries of Canada defended her title, extending an overnight lead in the final two runs in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Elana Meyers of the United States took silver.
