North Spokane structure fire displaces six

A structure fire displaced six people Sunday night. The Spokane Fire Department responded to the fire at 2728 North Smith about 8:41 p.m. and found a single-story wood framed home with fire extending from the exterior siding on the home’s back side into the attic, said Battalion Chief Joel Fielder. Crews quickly extinguished the fire, Fielder said, but it had already entered the attic, so crews ventilated the roof. The American Red Cross responded to assist the residents, which included two adults and four children. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire damaged the structure’s exterior siding and smoke damaged the home’s interior. The estimated loss is $15,000. Crews were at the scene for about two hours. About 18 firefighters responded.
