Obituary: Swanson, Elaine Mary
Age 91
She was born on May 3, 1922 in St. Paul, MN.
She was the youngest of four children raised in Minneapolis, MN, all who are now deceased.
She met her husband, Leonard at the U of Minn and they enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage.
He died in 2010.
They moved to San Diego after marrying and raised their son, Dr. Kim Swanson (Irvine, CA) and daughter, Carolyn Ringo (Spokane) there.
She received a BA in Elementary Education at U of Minn and years later, a Masters in Reading Ed at San Diego State Univ.
In San Diego, she was PTA president, president of Parents Television Council, superintendent of Sunday school, active in the Musical Merit Society, tutored children in reading and active at First Presbyterian Church San Diego.
After moving to Spokane in 2008, she was an English tutor for the Barton School at First Presbyterian Church Spokane.
She was much loved by her family and many dear friends.
Remarkably, to the end, she was always eager and ready for an adventure.
She will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, her faithfulness, and her unfailing love and support for her children and grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by her son and daughter and nine grandchildren, Liv Ringo and Nils Ringo of Seattle, Natasha, Alex, Gregory, Edward, Phillip, Timothy and Jonathan Swanson of Irvine, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and granddaughter, Roxanne Swanson.
A service celebrating her life will be at The Ridge at Rockwood Retirement Community, 2903 E. 27th Ave, 4pm, Saturday, July 27, 2013.
