WNBA deserves a boost

As a faithful fan of GU women’s basketball, I’m wondering why we don’t get WNBA coverage.

The argument seems to be that WNBA is not a profitable sport. If the media gave it just a little of the coverage they give the NBA, wouldn’t it attract more fans?

If GU women’s basketball can fill the house and collect a $200 surcharge from season ticket holders, shouldn’t the fans be able to follow their heroes when they move to the WNBA?

If Ronny Turiaf is traded or Elias Harris plays in the summer league it is major headlines. If Courtney Vandersloot helps the Chicago Sky move to 10-4 on the season with 7 assists, 4 steals and 4 points you have to get out a magnifying glass to find it in the local paper.

After suffering through night after night of the NBA finals can’t we get at least one night a week of WNBA and regular Spokesman-Review coverage?
