Obituary: Walter, Vallarie D.

WALTER, Vallarie D. (Age 80) Vallarie passed away on July 25, 2013 at Moran Vista after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born to Joseph and Erma Gerl on October 21, 1932 in Spokane.

She attended McKinley Grade School, Libby Junior High and Lewis and Clark High School.

Val was married and had two children, Diana Gibson and Eugene Lucas.

She lived in Las Vegas and Cincinnati.

She moved back to Spokane and later married the love of her life, George Walter.

They lived in Walla Walla, WA where their first son Chris was born, followed by their baby girl Penny.

They moved back to Spokane to be close to family.

Val was an avid antique collector.

She owned the Yankee Peddler which she ran out of their Valleyford farm, that George and her resided at for 36 years.

She later had a store front in downtown Spokane.

She could see the beauty and potential in literally everything, thus made her a collector of anything and everything.

She was a very talented artist, everything from painting to floral arrangements, Val had an eye for all of it.

She bravely fought and overcame breast cancer.

Val was preceded in death by her younger sister Marvaley Gerl, beloved sister Myrna Neubauer, husband George, and her parents.

Val is survived by her children, Diana Gibson, Eugene Lucas, Chris (Joanna) Walter and Penny (Erik) Walter; grandchildren J.D.

, Nicole, Tommy, Dena, Tracy, Jacob and Joy, and Winnie; three brothers Joe, (Corrine) Gerl, Timmy (Georgie) Gerl, and Danny Gerl; brother-in-law Rick Neubauer; step children Georgette (Tom) Grainger, Cindy (Jim) Manion; stepgrand- children Jayson and Eric Grainger, Sean and Garrett Manion; numerous nieces and nephews.

Alzheimer’s slowly robbed her of her memories but never robbed her of her pure sweetness.

A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Moran Vista Alzheimer’s ward and Hospice of Spokane.

Visitation will be Noon-5PM Wednesday at Heritage and Funeral Service 11AM, Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Sunset Chapel, Fairmount Memorial Park 5200 W. Wellesley Avenue.
