Obituary: Johnson, Robert B. Sr.
He proudly served in the Navy Seabees, operating a tugboat in Guam and Bremerton.
He was Parts Manager for Spokane Machinery and worked for SPOMAC for 47 years, retiring in 1994.
In 1948, he married Elizabeth Leverich in Olympia; she preceded him in death in July, 1990, after 41 years of marriage.
Bob has resided in the Spokane Valley for the past 57 years.
Dad’s favorite memories were made spending time with his close friends and family and being on or near the water - a tug in the Navy, sailing with Liz in their younger years, waterskiing at Priest Lake, boating at Lake Coeur d’Alene and the San Juan Islands, scuba diving and several trips to Hawaii and Florida with Marlene.
One of his greatest pleasures in life was meeting people and getting to know them.
All will testify - Bob never met a stranger.
Bob is survived by loving companion of 13 years, Marlene Gunning; four children and their families - Robert B. Johnson, Jr. (Judy), Liberty Lake; David F. Johnson (Janice), Liberty Lake; Stephen F. Johnson (Susan), Newman Lake; and Elizabeth (Lisa) Johnson Pendley (Jim), Ellensburg, WA; grandchildren Brian, Christy, Beth, Davice, Liberty and Katelyn, and 5-1/2 great-grandchildren.
Bob is also survived by his sister and her family, Christine Miller (Larry), Soldotna, Alaska; step-sister Sandra Constantine-McGuire (Terry), Spokane; and brother-in-law and family, Carl Dobson, Medical Lake, as well as nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by an infant daughter; one grandson, Aaron Johnson; sisters Gloria Gindraux and Neysa Dobson.
Please join us in a celebration of Dad’s life at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N. Pines Rd, Spokane Valley; burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
A get-together for friends and family will be held at his retirement home, Orchard Crest, S. 222 Evergreen Road, Spokane Valley, at 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the American Cancer Society.
