Obituary: Davis, Claire Hammond

DAVIS, Claire Hammond September 1938 - June 2013 Our mother Claire passed away on June 27, 2013 due to health issues.

Born to James and Helen Hammond in Anderson, South Carolina, Claire’s heart remained a Southerner for her entire life.

As a child, she developed a lifelong love of learning and especially loved English and History.

She remembered fondly when her father brought her to baseball games and she continued to cheer for her favorite team, the Atlanta Braves.

She attended Wesleyan College in Macon, GA and married just shy of her bachelor’s degree to a “Yankee”.

Lawrence “Larry” Davis married Claire in September of 1959.

Following her husband’s career, she raised three kids and made homes in Michigan, California, Virginia, Utah, California, South Carolina, and Washington.

Once her kids were raised, Claire went back to school for her history degree from Mills College in Oakland, CA in 1987.

Claire could often be happily found absorbed in a book, planning out the next gardening project, looking forward to future travels (she has been to nearly a dozen different countries), debating over current events around the dinner table or spending time with family.

Her six grandchildren were a great joy to her.

Going to bookstores, having tea parties, and shopping were just a few ways in which she would spoil her grandkids.

She was the best Trivial Pursuit partner and loved to surround herself with beautiful things.

We will remember her quick wit and sense of humor, support and love throughout the years.

She is survived by her husband, Larry, her children and their spouses, Lawrence and Kim Davis, Katharine and Rob Linford, and Alexandra and Anthony Botello, and grandchildren Connor, Lindsay, Emily, Ellie, Camille, and Anna.

Thank you to the ER staff, doctors, and nurses at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane who were so professional and caring.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Wesleyan College in Macon, GA at www.wesleyancollege.edu You are invited to sign her online tribute at www.hennesseyfuneralhomes.com
