Gonzaga shuts out Arkansas in baseball

Marco Gonzales struck out nine in a complete-game shutout as Gonzaga beat second-ranked Arkansas 3-0 at the Coca-Cola Classic baseball tournament in Surprise, Ariz.

Cory LeBrun drove in the first run for the Bulldogs (5-4) in a three-run sixth inning. Gonzales (2-1) scattered eight hits.

• Washington State won its seventh straight, an 8-2 nonconference triumph over Cal State Northridge in Pullman. Yale Rosen went 3 for 5 and drove in two runs for the Cougars (7-2).

Swimming

Idaho’s Rachel Millet won her second event of the meet, setting a school record in the 200 freestyle, at the Western Athletic Conference championships in San Antonio. The Vandals are in fourth place going into the final day. Jamie Sterbis (100 butterfly) and the 400 medley relay team also set school marks.

• Washington State remains in ninth place after three days of competition in the Pac-12 championships in Federal Way, Wash. Loree Olson set a school record in winning the “C” final of the 400 IM, finishing in 4:16.27.

Arena football

DL Terrance Taylor was assigned to the Spokane Shock.

Taylor played collegiately at Michigan and was a fourth-round selection in the 2009 NFL draft.
