In brief: Suspect in Valley shooting being held on $250,000 bond

The man suspected of a possible drug-related shooting in Spokane Valley last month will be held on $250,000 bond, charged with two counts of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

Terrance R. Jones, 26, appeared Friday in Superior Court after he was arrested the night before on Interstate 90. He is suspected of shooting John Gardner after a brief car chase Feb. 21 in front of Hobby Lobby, 13902 E. Indiana Ave.

Witnesses said Jones was in the back of a car driven by Natasha Arnold. There was also a juvenile male in the car. They picked Gardner up at Albertsons on Trent Avenue and Argonne Road and the three pooled $300-$350 to purchase illegal pills, court documents say. They gave the money to Gardner when they parked behind a silver vehicle at Wal-Mart, and Jones showed Gardner a gun and told him he had “better bring something back,” the documents say.

Gardner walked to the silver vehicle and got in before it drove away. Police believe Arnold, Jones and the juvenile chased the silver car to the parking lot of Hobby Lobby, when Gardner got out of the car and ran. Jones began to fire at Gardner, hitting him in the buttocks, the documents say. Jones walked up to Gardner, held the gun to his head and demanded the money back before fleeing, the documents say.

Jones was arrested two weeks later in a traffic stop.

Driver who fled after car chase arrested on multiple charges

A driver who police stopped with their cars after a high-speed chase is being held in Spokane County Jail on $35,000 bond.

Casey R. Gillette, 29, was arrested just after midnight Friday after police witnessed a 1996 Honda Accord being driven recklessly on North Division, heading downtown. Officers followed the Accord and eventually stopped it near Maple Street and Fairview Avenue using a specialized vehicle maneuver. The male driver and female passenger fled on foot but were caught a short distance away, police said.

Gillette was treated for a possible broken rib after police say he started to fight with officers. An unidentified officer was also injured.

The Honda had been reported stolen from Airway Heights Thursday night.

Gillette was charged with eluding police and possession of a stolen vehicle. Prosecutors said the charges could be amended to include assault of a police officer.
