In brief: Man injured in house fire

A house fire on the South Hill injured one person and drew several Spokane Fire Department crews Saturday morning.

The crews responded to a reported fire at 2914 E. 17th Ave. at 11:39 a.m., according to a news release from Assistant Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer.

Immediately a firefighter found a man suffering from smoke inhalation, and the man was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, Schaeffer wrote. No other victims were found.

Damage to the home was restricted to the second floor, Schaeffer wrote, but the home could not be occupied and the Red Cross was assisting the residents.

Police say man killed his father

One man is dead and his alleged killer, his son, was shot and wounded by officers in Okanogan County on March 15.

According to a news release from the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office, an officer shot a suspect after the man shot his own father in a house at 56 E. Dry Coulee Road.

Officers arrived around 8:20 p.m. after a report of a possible assault. When officers arrived, the release said, two women ran out of the house and said there were shots fired in the residence and a father and son were still inside.

Deputies and the county’s Special Response Team tried to communicate with people in the house.

When officers entered the house, the release said, the suspect fired a weapon, and an officer returned fire and wounded the suspect.

“The father had been fatally wounded by his son and was pronounced dead at the scene,” the release said.
