Obituary: Peterson, Bonnie E.

PETERSON, Bonnie E. 8/4/1923 - 3/20/2013 Bonnie Eileen Peterson, age 89, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at A Peaceful Place (Adult Family Home) in Spokane, Washington.

Bonnie was the fourth of five children born to Nathaniel and Clara Fay Redfern on the family ranch outside Woodlake, Nebraska.

When she was a small girl, her family moved into the town of Woodlake, where Bonnie grew up and graduated from Woodlake High School.

After high school, Bonnie followed some of her siblings west and relocated in Seattle, where she lived for most of her adult life.

She worked as a timekeeper at Siler’s Saw Mill, where she met her beloved husband, Harold B. Peterson.

They married on March 30, 1946.

A favorite activity they shared with siblings and friends was dancing.

Oh, how Bonnie loved to dance!

Her quiet personality transformed on the dance floor.

Outnumbered by the men in her life, including sons, Harold “Bruce”, William “Billy” and Brian, Bonnie learned to love sports and was an enthusiastic supporter of her son’s teams and also closely followed many favorite college and professional teams.

Bonnie returned to the workplace in 1964, employed by Pacific Northwest Bell until her retirement in the mid 1980’s.

She moved to Spokane in 2001 and lived at the Fairwinds for eleven years.

In November, Bonnie moved to A Peaceful Place where she resided until the time of her passing.

Bonnie was a kind, caring and thoughtful person who was completely devoted to her family.

One of her greatest joys was gathering her family around her dining table.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold and son Billy, her parents and her siblings.

She is survived by her two sons: Harold (Vivian), Beaverton, OR and Brian (Gail), Spokane, WA; Grand- children: Stephanie (Hideomi) Miyamoto, Wauconda, IL; Heather (Mike) Ferebee, Annandale, VA; Natalie Peterson, Beaverton, OR; Adrienne (Chad) Schoenberg, Spokane Valley, WA; and David Peterson, Columbia, SC; Great-grandchildren: Logan, Callan, Emma, Nathan, Beckham, Camden, Kaitlyn and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thank you to the staff at Fairwinds for being a kind and caring home to Bonnie.

The family would also like to extend its thanks to Horizon Hospice and the staff of A Peaceful Place for making Bonnie’s last few weeks as comfortable as possible.

The family is also grateful to Dr. John Musa, Dr. John Everett, Nancy Wickre, ARNP, Dr. Kathleen Reilly, Dr. Leonard Vanderbosch and Dr. Dru Rodriquez for their marvelous care of Bonnie while she lived in Spokane.

Donations may be made to Horizon Hospice or to a charity of your choice.

A memorial service for Bonnie will be held at a later date.
